#OpISIS started a year ago, and is now being resumed after the assaults on Charlie Hebdo. A video discharge says that the team of hackers is currently focusing on terrorists, and that its members originate from various backgrounds.
The release included a short description of the members of the hacktivist movement:
“First we need to clarify few things. We are: Muslims, Christians, Jews … We are hackers, crackers, hacktivists, phishers, agents, spies, or just the guy from next door. We are students, administrators, workers, clerks, and unemployed, rich, poor. We are young or old, gay or straight. We wear smart clothes or rugs; we are hedonists, ascetics, joy riders or activists. We come from all races, countries, religions and ethnicity. United as one, divided by zero … We Are Anonymous.”
The video post also includes details regarding some Twitter accounts that have already been hacked.
The group said that it is going to clean up the internet, adding: “ISIS; We will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails, and expose you … From now on, no safe place for you online … You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure.”
The hackers promised to clean up the web adding that they will hunt down ISIS by closing webpages, accounts and emails. The group warned ISIS that the online environment is no longer safe for the terrorist organization and that all content issued from ISIS will be dealt with like a virus.
Until now the cure seems to be working and a rundown of exactly 800 Twitter accounts that Anonymous links with ISIS are reported to be closed down. Various Facebook accounts that look just as liable to be a source of terror display are likewise listed by the hackers. However Anonymous said that these are the ones to monitor until further notice. The group also claimed that their campaign is only at the beginning.
The Anonymous bunch has been associated with cyber-attacks around the usually targeting governments for policies that the group opposes. Members are dubbed “Anons” and are identifiable by their Guy Fawkes masks. The group is perceived as anything from cyber Robin Hoods to digital terrorists.
