The Wall Street Journal releases new information to the public: Apple is investing almost $50 million in the development of Chinese research center in Beijing. The idea is to focus on the design of new hardware. Apple’s new center will have about five hundred employees. The Zhongguancun Science Park Administrative Committee stated that the goal of this new facility is to lay the foundation of new hardware, also developing audio, visual, and communications equipment.
This committee tends to believe more in the power and brightness of the Chinese people able to plan and develop technology in a suitable way. That is what Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, firstly detailed during a press conference. Tim Cook has argued that he tries to make more financial contributions when he goes to China next August. This year, Apple’s CEO is planning to develop another extraordinary Chinese research center.
Representatives from Apple avoid commenting on the information that Wall Street Journal shared to the public. This Chinese research center was reported to be located in a science park from Beijing’s Wangjing district. It was assumed that this huge investment would be the latest, considering the chain of investments already done by Apple striving to support the sales. Among this investment, a $1 billion one was registered to support Didi Chuxing, a Chinese app which is the equivalent of Uber.
China is considered to be the cornerstone of manufacture for Apple’s gadgets and also an essential market, but we have to face the fact that Apple has been lately experiencing a delicate situation in this country. Tim Cook needed to pay two visits to China this year, not only regarding the Chinese research center but also for softening the relations with Chinese officials. The reason for his visits is due to the government authorities’ decision to stop the release of the iTunes and iBooks Movies services.
Despite these problems, Apple’s CEO claimed that his company is still confident about the new opportunities which arise in China. He has decided that he will continue to make investments there. The Chinese research center is the evidence of his plans.
Do you think that Apple’s sales will continue to drop? Do you believe that the Chinese facility will build a hardware which will boost Apple’s confidence?
