Times are hard and companies have to pay attention on how the handle their businesses and how the competitors point fingers towards them, in order not to endanger their reputation. A new accusation that is happening in Seoul brings LG and Samsung together but unfortunately, in a confrontation. The appliance chief of LG is accused of publicly and intentionally injuring a washing machine that belongs to Samsung and that is exposed on a display stand for publicity. However, fortunately to the appliance chief of LG, there was a camera installed in the area and a video of the whole event has been put on YouTube on Monday, to convince everyone that he as only testing he’s rival’s products.
Jo Seong-Jin and two other LG Electronics employees were indicted by South Korean prosecutors, creating a grand dispute between the two large companies. The video is clear and it can’t be interpreted in very many ways. The surveillance cameras show how Jo and his two colleagues are touring a Samsung exhibit at a shop in Berlin, studying the new products and making observations about them together. The footage displays how they open and close the door of a washing machine, especially when Samsung retail representatives were looking in a different direction. Also, they were seen pushing on the door vertically.
The event has cause a lot of fuss and Jo was forced into telling the story various times to the media and the representatives of Samsung.
“There were many people around besides those I was on this business trip with, and Samsung workers were looking on right next to us. They would not have stood by had I deliberately damaged a washing machine.”
Because of the fact that the camera is zooming Jo while he was damaging the washing machine, nobody can tell if the Samsung retail representatives were looking at him or not at the moment. Samsung didn’t want to release the video, believing that the response that Jo has given to them is highly “inappropriate”.
Unfortunately, the prosecutors failed to resolve the dispute, but Jo Seong-Jin was left behind with the feeling of guilt.
“I apologize from the bottom of my heart once again to have unintentionally caused such trouble at a time of difficult economic conditions.”
