Asus have found wildly popular unique selling proposition (USP) for their new ZenFone Selfie. As the name suggests, it’s a phone built to take excellent selfies as it has a 13 MP camera mounted on the front of the smartphone, along with a LED flash next to it.
Selfies are a great hit on social media platforms, particularly on websites such as Facebook and Twitter, more than on those like Deviantart and Tumblr. People love taking quick photos of themselves and sharing special events or happy moments with friends and followers alike.
The on is problem is that most smart devices out there come with a front camera that has a supremely low quality, especially when compared with the rear camera, which is often at least three (3) times better than the front camera.
Asus has now entered the market with a smartphone designed to provide a solution for those who frequently post selfies on their pages, providing them with a device that can take clear, high-quality photos.
The Asus ZenFone Selfie has a double 13 MP camera (both the front camera and the rear cameras are 13 MP) with both if them using a dual-tone LED flash, and even improves on the features of the already well reviewed ZenFone 2 that launched just a month ago in the United States.
There are however still some small differences. The rear camera features an f 2.0 lens and also benefits from a laser-assisted auto-focus system similar to that of LG G4’s. The front camera on the other hand, features an f 2.2 lens that has an 80-degree viewing angle.
To access the selfie camera quickly, one simply needs to draw the letter “S” on the phone’s screen and the device will move into selfie mode instantly.
The phone’s camera modes offer a nice variety. One selfie-friendly mode is “beautification”, which has the job of softening facial features, slimming down cheeks, enlarging eyes and enhancing skin tone to add vibrancy, all in real time, as you take the photo. You can also find a panorama selfie mode which should lend itself nicely to group selfies.
Asus send a press release announcing the product, saying that it marks “a trailblazing fusion of fashion, technology and craftsmanship that melds the finest front and rear cameras, multiple special shooting modes, fluid ZenUI interface and a stunning, detail-rich display for a unique selfie experience that captures the perfect you”.
The phone has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (64-bit, octo-core; an upgrade from the ZenFone 2) and a 3,000mAh battery, sells with either 2 GB or 4 GB of RAM, and with 16, 32, or 64 GB of internal storage memory.
Design wise, the phone can be found comes in a few different colors – pale pink, green, turquoise, white, grey, gold and red. They are meant to appeal primarily to women aged between 18 and 30.
It can also be bough with an optional accessory called “Swing”, which can serve as wither a kickstand or an arm extender.
The price and release date of the device are unknown for the time being, though you should expect it sooner rather than later, by the end of the year.
