Barnes & Noble announced fresh new discounts for its Nook tablet range. The discount though is only applicable to those in the UK. The company in its latest press release revealed the discounts are being offered to promote Get Reading festival which is aimed at furthering the cause of reading among the Englishmen. However, there is a twist in the tale in that the reduction in prices under the guise of promoting the cause of reading could be a clever ploy to clear existing stocks of the Nook tablet range. This since the company has already made it known they are exiting the Nook tablet in view of the massive losses they have suffered.
As such, the Nook HD with a 7 inch high resolution 1440 x 900 pixel display and 8 GB of internal memory is now up for grabs for just £99. The higher capacity 16 GB version of the same will cost £129. Other features of the tablet include a 1.3 GHz dual core TI OMAP 4470 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, as well as a microSD card slot.
The reduced price for the bigger Nook HD+ stands at £149 for the 16 GB version and £179 for the model with 32 GB of onboard storage. The Nook HD+ comes with a 9 inch display having a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels, a 1.5 GHz dual core chip, 1 GB of RAM and a microSD card slot.
The offer will be valid till the 13th of July though experts predict it could be extended further as the company attempts to offload as many Nook tablet as it can to clear current inventory of the same. The price cut now in effect in the UK comes in the wake of the company having reduced the prices of the 7 and 9 inch Nook tablets to £159 and £229 just two months ago.
