CES 2017 saw the release of the initial details and a first look at the Dell Canvas, a 27-inch display workstation that could fulfill some user dreams.
Dell Technologies is a Round Rock, Texas-based company. It was founded in September 2016 after the incorporation of Dell Inc. The original company merged with the EMC Corporation.
Dell is an information technology corporation. It is involved in various technological areas. These include the personal computer, computer software, and network and computer security domains. Smartphones and television manufacturing are some other examples.
During CES 2017, the company announced the release of its latest product. The Dell Canvas will be a quite large workspace. It will reportedly function similarly to the Microsoft Surface Studio. However, Canvas will not replace a computer.
The device will work as a sort of display. It can be connected to a personal computer or other monitors. A connection can be established with help from a USB or Thunderbolt.
Dell’s Canvas will have a 27-inch display. This will have a Quad HD or 2,560 x 1,440 resolution. The screen will be protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass. As such, it should be quite resistant. It will also be etched with a special, anti-reflective coating. This will give a more matte look when compared to other digital screens.
The Dell Canvas will have a somewhat thicker bezel. It will have 1-inch at the top and 3 at the bottom. Dell reportedly chose this design so as to allow for sweeping pen strokes.
Its pen will be more sensitive when compared to others. This will have 2,048 points of pressure. The Canvas screen will support 20 touch points. That is double the usual 10 points of touch.
The Canvas pack kit will come with two readily included dial accessories. There will be a small one, called the Knob. The other will be large and titled the Dial. Dell has taken to calling the dial accessories “totems”. They will only function when placed directly on the screen.
During the CES demo, the Dell Canvas mostly sat an angle. This gave it a similar appearance to a drafting board. As such, it may also indicate one of its main functions.
Canvas will reportedly to a maximum 11-degrees angle. Still, an additional stand will be offered. Through it, the display can be angled up to 85 degrees.
The device will be adapted for a Windows desktop support. However, it will also offer some enhancements to the usual desktop experience. As such, it will offer some features for when the Canvas is not actively used.
The desktop can be minimized when using the Dell Canvas. As such, programs will be divided into boxes. These should ensure a quick access. They could also account for a greater touch control. As it is, the enhancements should ensure an easier and faster multitasking. It should also make it easier to launch software.
Dell Canvas standard kits will reportedly come with a $1,799 price tag. Additional devices will also be offered. For example, the extra stand will have an estimated added $399 cost.
Still quite expensive, the Dell Canvas is nonetheless more accessible when compared to other market variants. The fact that it is an independent piece might also contribute.
As opposed to other similar devices, Canvas will come in front, and not instead of another device.
