Moreover, over the weekend, anyone can play in multiplayer Doom and test the campaign for free. Only the two levels of the campaign will be unlocked. The free trial weekend for PlayStation will start next Thursday. All trial weekends expire on the respective Sundays.
The company sells the game at a discounted price of $14.99 during the said weekends for each platform. The progress made during those weekends will be saved to the full game.
A Revamped Unlock System
The latest update, however, will reset all progress in multiplayer since the game will switch from a system that unlocks levels randomly to a more Call of Duty-like progression. The revamped system will enable players to level up and find objects after performing specific in-game actions.
Players will be able to keep their unlocked items from the random unlock system, but they will also be able to reset the game if they want so. The new update will use Runes instead of Hack Modules, just like the campaign.
Runes will not be temporary, they will be equipable items that are designed to be “consistent and predictable” within the new unlock system. The game’s multiplayer interface will also see some minor changes like “revised post-match summaries”.
Most fans are happy with the changes as they hope the free trial could lure in more players and make the game’s multiplayer more competitive. Players who purchased the Season Pass will be vindicated by the new update. Some fans, however, would like an add-on to the single-player instead.
