Researchers from the Drexel University and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology are working on a nanomaterial coating. It is called Mxene According to the study, this material will be able to protect also the gadgets from electromagnetic interference. Our smartphones, tablets, and laptops could be in danger because of radiation. Scientists are hoping this new material will help us more than others did.
The authors of the study explained that people use think metals to protect their gadgets. However, material consumption leads to disadvantages for use in aerospace. That is why Mxene could be better. It has a lightweight feature and thin protective coating. This makes it easier to protect gadgets from electric interference. Its structure and high electrical conductivity reflect the waves.
We all have so many gadgets and most of them are interfering. Researchers tried to find a material that can be applied no matter what shape or size your smartphone has, for example.
Mxene has the thinnest film, which is similar to a strand of hair. It can also give the same protection as popular material, such as aluminium. If its thickness will be increased with 8 micrometers, the material could block the electromagnetic interference at 99.99 percent. We are expecting to see many people using this material, in the future.
Electromagnetic interference happens when a gadget is not working as it should because it is closer to an electromagnetic field, in the radio frequency caused by another electronic device. This disturbance can cause issues to the performance of the gadget or even make it stop. There were people who lost their data because of electromagnetic interference. The new material could block the electronic interference and we would be able to use it on every device we want.
More research will be done before the Mxene will be used. The developers hope they find more purposes for this material. The most important benefits it has it that it easy to process and it is also cheaper than others.
