After all the fuss about the Mobilegeddon that Google has recently launched, involving changes in the algorithm in charge of page rankings on mobile devices, Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues at Facebook have announced what many of both the tech experts and the tech enthusiasts started to call Contentgeddon. The California based company has made its upcoming actions public, which target the News Feed relevance of content around the social platform. Facebook News Feed algorithm goes through changes too, and news publishers have to come up with something accordingly, in order not to have the reach of their posts severely decreased.
Facebook News Feed Algorithm goes through changes, Mark Zuckerberg said, in addition to a well known strategy by the young billionaire of linking any launches publishers make by the ideas he and his colleagues implement into Facebook. The social platform has already warned the owners of Facebook Pages that the new algorithm they have introduced will probably affect the reach of their posts into other people`s news feed, which obviously comes along with a decrease in traffic.
The American social giant has mentioned that three main points in the way a post reaches another person`s news feed will be modified by the introduction of the new algo.
But the most relevant seems to be the one regarding a better reach for posts to the Facebook friends of the publisher, integrated into different news feeds, instead of promoting news published by various Facebook Pages which have been `liked` by an ordinary user. The change will function for the desktop website and for the mobile app as well.
“The impact of these changes on your page’s distribution will vary considerably depending on the composition of your audience and your posting activity. In some cases, post reach and referral traffic could potentially decline. Overall, pages should continue to post things that people find meaningful and consider these best practices for driving referral traffic.“
Facebook wrote in connection to the matter.
The text that the American company decided to affiliate to the announcement of the new News Feed algo sounds very good, especially the last part of it, concerning the `best practices` that lead to traffic. And while that is true, , it will not surprise anyone that the Facebook Pages owners will be required to post visibly more content on Facebook in order to get the traffic they used to benefit from, through the social platform.
Facebook also added that the new measure aims at directing more relevant posts to users, and the company thinks those are the posts of friends, rather than the posts of various pages.
