Francis Ford Coppola-approved for an official video game to presume the idea of his movie Apocalypse Now which appeared back in 1979. A group of developers is bound to convince Kickstarter to fund their million-dollar project for the development of the new video game. The process of creation of the game will take developers about three years.
Players can play the role of Captain Benjamin Williard as they uncover the fantastic world based on the movie’s plot, designing their own version of the tale. Coppola claims that about forty years ago he decided to create this personal art picture hoping to influence the generations to come. Nowadays, he feels challenged by this team of developers who want to build an interactive version of the movie Apocalypse Now.
The gamer is Captain Benjamin Willard fighting in the Vietnam War. Coppola is thrilled to witness the evolution of video games which always grow into extraordinary stories. He can’t wait to explore the framework of the game, opening new possibilities for the new generation. Developers stated that they had already spent a lot of hours in pre-production.
The team which is in charge of the development of the game is American Zoetrope which works together with a group of veteran game developers. The list of experts of the team includes Montgomery Markland, the team producer of Torment: Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 2; Lawrence Liberty, the director and executive producer of The Witcher, DC Universe Online and Fallout: New Vegas; and Rob Auten, a lead writer on many gaming franchises like Battlefield, Far Cry and Gears of War.
The new game aims to mix role-playing game mechanics with a cinematic plot. The main idea of the story is that Captain Willard is sent on a secret mission to kill renegade Colonel Walter E. Kurtz. Apocalypse Now was described as being a recreation of Willard’s journey with an interactive feature. The game is seen through the eyes of a survivor who faces dreadful horrors.
Based on the details shared by developers in a press release, we find out that players will be able to make their own decisions, independent of the plot of the game. As gamers explore the terrors of Vietnam War, their decisions will influence the outcome of the game, altering their journey as the narrative unfolds.
