Generation Zero Depicts a Postapocalyptic Sweden, But in the ‘80s

June 8, 2018 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Alley passing through a forest at sunset

Generation Zero is an open-world shooter with a Terminator-like atmosphere

If you enjoy playing shooter games, get ready for the release of a brand new open-world title. The game is called Generation Zero and is developed by the same studio that produced the Just Cause and Mad Max games, Avalanche Studios. You’ll have to fight with machines that have taken over the world and find a way to escape from their dominion.

Generation Zero is an open-world shooter

Avalanche is a Swedish studio with its headquarters in Stockholm, and the action of Generation Zero will also take place in Sweden. In terms of story, it might remind you of Terminator, as you have to survive in a world led by machines. So far, it sounds like a regular shooter game, but it actually contains some exclusive content.

Generation Zero will feature realistic cycles of day and night, together with changing weather you cannot predict. In terms of game mechanics, they will be operated by an AI. This will control the movements of weapons, of the characters, but also contributes with some realistic sound effects. If you needed one more reason to play the game, the developer also announced it would feature a nice ‘80s soundtrack.

The game comes with some really interesting specifications

You can play the game alone, but you can also become part of a team of four players. Afterwards, you’ll have to face all kinds of enemies you can scar forever. Once you meet an enemy and hurt him without killing him, the damage stays permanent. This is great, since your efforts will not be in vain.

This already sounds interesting, but Avalanche didn’t reveal some really important details. For instance, we don’t know how big the map will be or how multiplayer will actually work. Given the previous titles of the developer, we should know what to expect of Generation Zero. According to the Steam information, the game should be out in 2019 and work on Windows 7 as well.

Facebook Launches Videogame Streaming Hub to Fight with Twitch and YouTube

June 8, 2018 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

Person playing a videogame on a console

The Fb.gg videogame streaming hub helps you discover new live content

Videogame livestreaming has become increasingly popular on Facebook, but sometimes it’s hard to tell such content apart from regular livestreams. Therefore, the social media platform has decided to create a special videogame streaming hub where their content is more visible. This hub, called Fb.gg, gathers streams from players you are following, as well as some top picks from other creators.

Gaming livestreaming is getting easier on Facebook

Watching game livestreaming can be difficult on a platform that is not dedicated for it. Therefore, Facebook decided to give gaming enthusiasts a place where they no longer need to sift through content to see what they’re interested in.

This place is a special videogame streaming hub called Fb.gg where all the gaming-related content is gathered. There, you can see content from users you are following, but you can also discover some new things to watch. Also, the best thing about it is the fact that you no longer need to scroll through the News Feed.

A strategy against Twitch and YouTube

This videogame streaming hub is an attempt to steal some of Twitch’s live streamers. In January, Facebook came up with a program creating gaming content, similarly to YouTube and Twitch. However, unlike these more popular platforms, Facebook didn’t use monetization strategies.

Facebook’s move might really be a smart one. Twitch remains the top platform for gaming livestreams, while YouTube owns the supremacy of non-live videos. Now, Facebook is trying to tackle with both these fields. The videogame streaming hub is the first step to stealing the viewers from these platforms.

Fb.gg has already gone live, gathering quite a serious number of streamers. The top game of the moment is, of course, Fortnite, and that’s understandable. Currently, it’s one of the most popular titles in the world and has occupied the first position on Twitch for several months now. Facebook’s videogame streaming hub has gathered 210,000 viewers so far, with 3,000 users streaming Fortnite.

Blizzard Job Listing Hints to a New Diablo Game

June 7, 2018 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Blizzard might really be preparing for a new Diablo game

Six years ago, Blizzard released probably its most awaited game, Diablo III. If you thought this was the last of the game series you were about to see, you might have been wrong. Blizzard has just posted a job listing for a dungeon artist, showing that a new Diablo game is in the making.

A Blizzard job listing is hinting at a new Diablo game

Blizzard has big plans for the future, as it has no intention to leave the Diablo franchise to die. Therefore, it decided to announce the incoming of a new Diablo game through a list of jobs on their website. Given the name of the game, there are going to be plenty of demons you need to fight. For this, Blizzard needs a dungeon artist to design them and the entire gloomy environment of the game.

The new Diablo game hasn’t been officially announced, but the job offer hints directly at it. Apart from a dungeon artist, Blizzard is also looking for people who are good at handling 2D and 3D graphics and work well with textures and imagery. However, there’s something they all need to have in common. The main requirement is for them to love the Diablo universe, so there’s nothing that confirms it better.

The announcement comes one year after the last Diablo release

It might be time for a new Diablo game to return. The last content update in the franchise took place in June 2017, one year after the release of the game. Unlike the first two titles, Diablo III was available for purchase for a longer period of time. This happened mostly because it received all kinds of updates, DLCs, and events.

The first Diablo title was out in 1996, and the second in 2000. In over 20 years of existence, the franchise has become a classic. With the third game in the series, Blizzard kept the fans waiting for 11 years, while it turned into a real legend. Some might say they have waited enough, and a new Diablo game would be the perfect reward for them. The studio might keep us waiting just as long, but it will definitely be worth the wait.

Bungie Offers Some Hints on the Fall’s Destiny 2 DLC

June 5, 2018 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Screenshots of spaceships fighting in Destiny 2 DLC

The Destiny 2 DLC will take place in the Reef

This fall comes with surprises for FPS fans, as Bungie has just announced the release of a new Destiny 2 DLC. The news seems to be big, as the developer is planning to present the exciting release in an exclusive livestream video. It turns out it will be a real treat, since the DLC will present a location everyone has been missing since Destiny 1.

A new Destiny 2 DLC for the game’s second year

The great video game event E3 is approaching, but Bungie couldn’t wait until then for the exciting news. In the second year of existence of the game, they will release an exclusive Destiny 2 DLC called Forsaken. The details are quite scarce at the moment, since the confirmation came via a brief tweet both on the Bungie account and on the official account of the game.

However, the tweet presents an official trailer for the Destiny 2 DLC, so it’s already more than we have been dreaming of. There, we can see the action will take place in the Reef, a location that used to be available only in Destiny 1. However, this is the only thing we get to find out about the expansion.

The announcement also came with a lot of rumors

Of course, the teaser spiced a lot of rumors. Some people suggested the Destiny 2 DLC would bring a new faction in the game gathering a new type of enemies. However, the same source indicated a different name for the DLC, so we don’t know if we can count on these rumors.

The Reef was the place where all the action of Destiny 1’s second expansion took place. Then, many other missions, quests, and extra content were based on the same Reef. Some characters, like the Queen of the Reef, died in there. At this, fans started getting optimistic and hoped the Destiny 2 DLC will bring her back.

However, we still have to wait for Bungie to release more info on the expansion. It should be available on all platforms and should be out sometime during fall.

Tomorrow, the second year of Destiny 2 will be revealed.

The Petition Against Active Shooter Convinced Valve to Remove the Game from Steam

May 31, 2018 By Nicholas Anderton Leave a Comment

Quiet school corridor during the day

Valve pulled Active Shooter from Steam after the petition gained many signatures

Earlier this week, a new controversy has arisen regarding a video game. A bunch of angry parents have signed a petition against Active Shooter, a game that looks really similar to a school shooting simulator. The game had its release set on June 6th but, as the petition has gathered so many supporters, Valve decided to remove the game from the Steam platform.

Angry parents wrote a petition against Active Shooter

In the light of the recent school shooting event, the Active Shooter game attracted everyone’s attention at the beginning of this week. The game should depict a SWAT simulator, but its gameplay video displayed the main character running on the corridors of a school and shooting people.

Of course, such a game came as a sensitive topic given the recent events, so everyone was outraged. As a result, a group of parents decided to start a petition against Active Shooter. The one who took the initiative was Stephanie Robinett, who describes herself as an activist.

Revived Games, the developer, tried to defend their creation saying the whole action shouldn’t depict a school shooting. Also, Valve first allowed it on Steam due to free speech, since the game wasn’t actually illegal. However, the petition quickly gathered more supporters and, only in a few days, obtained over 200,000 signatures.

Valve agreed to pull the game from Steam

This left Valve no solution than remove the game from Steam. Its release was initially scheduled for June 6th. However, the avid petition against Active Shooter made the company take action a lot more quickly. The developers declared that, if things had started to get ugly, they would have removed the option to play as a shooter.

If the petition against Active Shooter hadn’t been successful, the game should have been available for $5 or $10. The main option was to play as a member of a SWAT team. However, it also featured a mode that displayed a full-fledged school shooting where you had to slaughter everything in your way.

Outraged Parents Gather Against Active Shooter, a So-Called School Shooting Simulator

May 29, 2018 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

SWAT team getting ready for an attack

Active Shooter looks really similar to a school shooting

A shooting game that is soon to be released on Steam has spiced a huge controversy that might prevent it from being rolled out. The game, called Active Shooter, shows the main character getting engaged in different shooting situations and was described by its creator as a SWAT simulator. However, dozens of outraged parents see it as a depiction of a school shooting and want it banned.

Active Shooter looks incredibly similar to a school shooting simulator

On Friday, a petition surfaced on Change.org against the unreleased game Active Shooter. The petition has already gathered over 12,000 signatures and wants to prevent the release of this so-called outrageous game. Many worried parents compared the gameplay to a school shooting scenario, so it’s easy to understand why they want it banned.

When confronted with the accusations, the developer gave a different explanation. Revived Games described Active Shooter as a SWAT simulator. Therefore, the players can impersonate members of a SWAT team, namely an active shooter. Apart from the players, the game will also include civilians who are often targets of the shooters.

A group of outraged parents wrote a petition against the game

What outraged the parents about Active Shooter was a screenshot from the game. Here, the player runs on the corridors of a school and innocent civilians are trying to escape. It turns out the developers used a series of preexistent assets to develop the game. In an attempt to be quick and consume fewer resources, the developers ended up using controversial assets.

However, Active Shooter is not the first Revived Games title to cause outrage. Previous games of the same developer sported confusing titles that were enough to spice scandals. However, White Power: Pure Voltage or Tyde Pod Challenge were not what they sounded like. Their description revealed the games were actually harmless.

The release of Active Shooter was scheduled for June 6th. Given the recent petition and controversy, Revived Games said they got into contact with Valve and were planning to discuss the matter. However, the developer would most likely remove the option of impersonating the shooter.

For all of that, but also for questions you never thought of, you have the Ubisoft virtual gaming assistant Sam.

If you’re looking for a Siri but for gaming, you should give Sam a try. You won’t be able to download it as an individual app, but the virtual gaming assistant is available within Ubisoft Club, an app you can easily download. This whole application is about improving your gaming experience and making use of their best features.

Get all your gaming questions answered by Sam

To make these things possible, Ubisoft created Sam. The virtual gaming assistant is there to answer any kind of questions. It knows everything about your games and your strategies, so it can either give you tips or answer random questions regarding your gaming habits. Sam is available both for Android and for iOS. However, the virtual gaming assistant is available only in a beta version at the moment, and only in English. If you’re curious about it, Ubisoft has released a video to convince you to try it.

Streaming Resident Evil 7 Soon Comes on Nintendo Switch

May 21, 2018 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

Streaming Resident Evil 7 on Switch might not be what you’ve wanted

The news of a series of Capcom games being available on Nintendo Switch have been a pleasant surprise for everyone. To the recent additions, the company has added a truly remarkable title that everyone must have been waiting for – Resident Evil 7. However, users won’t actually get to own its Switch version, as it will only be available for streaming.

Streaming Resident Evil 7 will soon be available on Switch

If you were about to get excited for the new announcements, take a moment to understand the news as you should. Soon enough, streaming Resident Evil 7 will be available on Switch. Here’s how the thing goes. In exchange for $18, you will be able to play only a cloud version of the game.

This means that, for the next six months, you will get the game together with its latest DLC. However, the game will be constantly streamed from cloud. This means you need to keep your Switch console connected to the internet as long as you play.

You won’t actually own the Switch game since it’s cloud based

Streaming Resident Evil 7 comes for a great price, but it’s merely streaming. This means you are not paying for the actual game, since you won’t get to own it. In fact, what you do will be something really similar to renting. Given the fact that it runs via an internet connection, you might have to deal with lags and connection problems. Therefore, we can’t say if this is really profitable.

By streaming Resident Evil 7, Capcom has followed the example of SEGA. The studio also developed a cloud version for Phantasy Star Online 2, but it was a small game that was only 40 MB big. However, the version allowed to sync your progress across a series of platforms.

Streaming Resident Evil 7 might not sound like the best combination. However, given the many ideas Capcom has got over the past few months, there might be something more about it that what meets the eye.

On Thursday, Microsoft made the exclusive announcement of the arcade Halo, which is the first game of the type belonging to this series. To make everything possible, the company needed some professional help. Therefore, it developed the game in collaboration with Play Mechanix and Raw Thrills, who have plenty of experience in creating arcade games.

The arcade Halo, called Fireteam Raven, it features four players who need to work together to protect the galaxy. Their ultimate goal is to defeat the Covenant, the biggest enemy of the galaxy, and they do it while fighting in the same team as the mighty Master Chief.

The game preserves the traditional arcade competition while it’s also collaborative

In terms of graphics and visuals, the arcade Halo is pretty impressive. While it is available on the old school coin-operated machine, it sports some impressive 4K graphics on a screen of 130 inches. To make everything easier, the machine will also feature some machine guns you can use for different purposes.

If you are a fan of the other Halo games, you might want to know where to place this one. The time setting of the arcade Halo coincides with the Combat Evolved game from 2001. Your four-player team will be Fireteam Raven, which is part of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

The game will also preserve the true arcade spirit. Yes, Halo will be collaborative and ask you and your teammates to work together. However, they kept the typical arcade tops where you should beat the others’ high scores. After many years of development and preparations, Microsoft finally managed to finish Halo: Fireteam Raven. Shortly, it will be available on all arcade machines, so stay tuned for more info.
