Google Calendar users may have already noticed that all the sleek and modern features of Calendar’s mobile app are now also available in its web version. On Tuesday, October 17, Google announced through a blog post that it decided to update and upgrade its Calendar for Web.
Besides getting a fresh and modern look, the service will also be getting a series of new features or at least extensions of existing ones.
Google Calendar for Web, More Stylish, More Useful
The easiest and surely first thing to notice about the new Calendar version is its change of face. Starting with this update, the service will ditch the same old layout it had maintained for years. Instead, it will be using a sleek design completed by a modern color palette that follows Google’s Material Design scheme.
However, the change is more than just for looks, as this responsive layout will help automatically adjust the calendar to the browser window’s size, as just an example.
Google also points out that: “We’ve also added more features for enterprises to help teams schedule and prepare for meetings.”
According to the blog post, these changes are all based on the years’ worth of feedback received from users.
Starting from now, Google Calendar for Web should make it easier to manage your work schedule, for example by seeing details on the conference room when booking it.
Calendar invites will start including rich formatting and also links to relevant documentation, other presentations, or spreadsheets. This should help gather all the necessary information for a meeting in just one place.
Users will also notice the new side-by-side “Day” view feature. Thanks to it, they will be able to both view and manage calendars in different columns but without having to scroll.
Google presents this as being a great tool for employees looking to manage multiple calendars at the same time.
After receiving an invitation, users will now be able to see information on the other participants to the meeting. This can be accessed by simply hovering over the name. Sharing a calendar with a group was also touted to have become easier.
Users that mistakenly deleted an invite will now have the chance to view and restore the things that really mattered.
Those that chose Google Calendar for personal use were also invited to click the “Use new Calendar” to get started. This tab is located in the upper righthand corner of Calendar’s for Web main view.
