The American tech giant Google Inc. was criticized by the China Internet Network Information Center (CINIC) on Thursday, over a security certificate decision took by the American company. The Chinese agency claims that Google Inc. illegitimately refused to trust the safety verification led by the China Internet Network Information Center. Analysts say that this new conflict that occurred on Thursday is just another thing to make us aware of the dissensions between China and the American tech giants, or any tech companies who are outside of the Chinese republic.
On Wednesday, Google Inc. announced that the websites verified for safety by the China Internet Network Information Center will not be considered as trustworthy anymore. CINIC is a Chinese agency whose object is the administration of Internet addresses in the Asian country. Google Inc. explained that the American company will not consider as safe the websites which have been verified by the China Internet Network Information Center with a status of safe business any longer. This type of certificate, such as the one offered through a CINIC verification are reviewed by the web browsers. In case of a safety certificate, the web browser will signal the user that the website is safe to enter and explore. On the other hand, if the certificate is not ok, the web browser will warn the user about the illegitimacy of that particular website.
With Google Inc. not acknowledging websites verified by the China Internet Network Information Center as safe, any website with a certificate from CINIC will be marked as illegitimate, or not safe. The users will be urged not to enter the website in such a situation. This applies to users of the Google Chrome web browser.
An official representing Google Inc. refused to comment further on the matter.
The Chinese agency`s reply to Google`s decision did not hesitate to come out. Officials from the China Internet Network Information Center stated that the agency does not understand why the American tech giant has taken such a decision. They added that the rights of the users should be taken into consideration, and urged Google to reconsider its position. The officials added that the users will not be affected by entering any of the websites they labelled as safe.
It is not the first conflict between China and Google Inc. Five years ago, the American tech company relocated a part of its services past the Chinese border. In that case, Google acted in that way as a form of protest.
