Google has implemented a revolutionary tool for Android called Family Link which is a parental control software which helps parents the first Google account for their kids. The new software was launched today, on March 16. Family Link is bound to come in handy for parents when it comes to using several parental controls to track and contain the apps used by their children, daily limits, screen time and bedtimes.
Parents control which apps are used by their kids
Although other mobile device providers, like Amazon and Apple, included a parental control software, the one launched by Google is different because it was developed to be a two-party system. Nevertheless, the software seems to work like a third-party parental control. The app which is installed on parent’s gadget helps them configure settings and monitor their kid’s digital behavior.
For this software to work, both the child and the parent need to use Android. Firstly, the parent needs to download and install the mobile app Family Link for their device which must have incorporated Android KitKat (4.4) or even higher. Google stated that an iOS version of this software is not yet available. By using this app, the parent will be able to set up the first Google account of their children. Google representatives noted that the parental control software is meant for children under the age of 13.
The parental control software can be used only on Android devices
Secondly, the kid uses his or her device to sign in by using the new credentials for their new account. The kid’s tablet or smartphone must work with Android Nougat (7.0) or a device which features Marshmallow (6.1). As soon as the child signs in, his or her phone usage will be logged and tracked. This means that parents will be able to see how much time their kids spend in particular apps, looking at weekly and monthly reports.
By using the app of their devices, fathers and mothers can set a series of ground rules for their children. They can limit their kids’ time spent on their mobile phones on a daily basis. Also, they can decide which apps should be installed and which should be not. Moreover, they can also control the mobile gadget, establishing when the device will be powered off. They may use a remote locking feature for this. With the new software, your kids should be safe when surfing the net.
