CD Projekt Red have finally announced the official launch of the beta version of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. This version, coming for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, is available for free and wants to prepare players for the coming of the full version of the game.
Gwent public beta version available for free
The public beta of Gwent offers people a chance to experiment with the upcoming game, and maybe convince them to purchase the full version as soon as it hits the market. If they enjoy the gameplay, they can save their progress and carry it over to the main game.
This sounds great but, until then, they will have to put up with the drawbacks of a beta, such as bugs, certain missing elements, issues with the balance of the characters, or even the risk to lose their progress. However, this experience will help CD Projekt Red with the final touches they need to bring to the game.
The game already has its enthusiasts
Gwent features a closed beta version as well, but not many players managed to try it. Now they are bringing it to the public, together with some new cards and gameplay changes which are supposed to improve the gaming experience. Apart from the older players, the studio aims to attract new people to start the game.
Gwent initially appeared as a mini card game within the main RPG The Witcher 3. However, it gained so much popularity and got so many players engaged in it, that it gained a life of its own and distanced gamers from the main action. Therefore, it was clear that it needed an independent version.
The current card game market is dominated by Hearthstone, so Gwent might have to face some difficulties. However, the game comes with its advantages. Witcher players are already familiar with it, and it has gathered quite a big fanbase. Therefore, Gwent should enjoy a great start.
