Stephen Cebula, a 28-year old man from Sacramento, was slammed Thursday with a 30-page-plus federal indictment over his recent death threats. Cebula was upset that moderators kept silencing him in-game.
In one threat, he told Blizzard to be extra careful as he is a California resident and he could visit its headquarters “with an AK 47 among some other ‘fun’ tools” at any moment. He, nevertheless, has said he „may or may not” carry out his plan.
The man admitted that he has threatened both Blizzard employees and his in-game foes through his Facebook account. He said that he only wanted to scare people, so no harm was intended, we learned from a report drafted by an FBI agent.
He said he found Blizzard’s address on its website. In another threat, he mentioned that he knew where the California HQ were to give employees “ a sinking feeling” that he is serious.
He complained that the company’s staffers kept silencing players in Heroes of the Storm.
“It would be a shame to [anger] the wrong person. Do you not agree blizzard?,”
the death threat reads.
The FBI has publicized messages sent by the frenzied player to the Irvine-based company’s staffers. The company said that the player was barred from speaking in chat after he had harassed several other players.
The man, who is in the Silver bracket within the multiplayer game’s ranking system reportedly sent racist messages to his peers and other death threats. In a message, he even threatened to bomb the twin towers in NYC.
But threatening Blizzard was the last straw. The Californian was taken into custody on July 12 after staffers had reported him to the FBI five days prior. The feds found that the HotS player had other social media accounts, which he used to harass other players. One account bears the name of Ted Bundy, one of the nation’s most dangerous serial murderer.
Federal investigators are not convinced that the man is mentally stable. They were disturbed when Cebula told them that he had fantasies of performing sexual acts on a five-year-old. Last year, he was referred for psychiatric evaluation after he threatened to murder someone in a local park.
