Cher Wang, the company`s chairwoman and at the same time co-founder of HTC, takes a step up and becomes the new chief executive officer, on the background of a series of changes in the technology giant`s management.
It was within a press release when HTC made the announcement. The Taiwanese company stated that Cher Wang, chairwoman and co-founder of HTC, was going to take the position and responsibilities of a chief executive officer for the company. They added that her activity would begin forthwith. Wang took the place of Peter Chou, the former CEO, who will now lead the development of the electronics produced by HTC, in head of the Future Development Lab.
This decision comes after a 2 year period during which Peter Chou got involved more and more in the Product Development sector. He was needed to pass some of his chief executive duties to Cher Wang. It seemed a very good idea to the board of directors at HTC and to the executives as well, to enact the change in the Taiwanese company`s nomenclature.
“We are seeing rapid changes in the industry, with the smartphone as our personal hub connecting us to a growing world of smart devices. We pioneered the smartphone industry; now we are applying that thinking to realize the potential of a new generation of connected products and services.”
said Wang, referring to the company`s future.
But not only the executive team and the directors were down for the change in the chief executive officer position. Even Wang suggested the modification in HTC`s nomenclature. She said that she is truly an entrepreneur and she would know how to take care of the company`s future, specifically regarding it as a business. During an interview with Bloomberg, the co-founder of HTC claimed that she was the best candidate for the position, because she can discern between what is useful and what is harmful to HTC and because she has a good relationship with the employees.
And it may be time for some change in HTC`s way of making business. The Taiwanese have both won and lost over the years in which Peter Chou was the CFO. They had a hit on the market with the launching of HTC One, but its sales didn`t compare to the ones of the bigger names in technology.
