A fun new jailbreak addition is showcasing just what can be done with the iOS platform on Apple devices. Apple is currently on version 6 of its in-house mobile operating system, and is widely expected that the Cupertino based company will roll out iOS 7 later in the year alongside a new iPhone handset. This jailbreak tweak called Peekly shows that the iOS platform can be played around with to good effect.
While we seriously doubt that Apple will take any notice of Peekly, or indeed take any of its ideas and run with them, we do like seeing just what can be done with iOS and wondering if Apple is already exploring similar possibilities.
Peekly is a lock screen tweak that adds a weather widget and calendar widget to the iPhone lock screen. You are probably like us here at Gadget Gestures and have often wondered just why Apple does not allow more customization of the lock screen, which at the moment only allows for an image change. It seems weird that the company has never allowed for lock screen widgets, but alas it has not.
Luckily we have cool jailbreak tweaks like Peekly that show just what can be done. If you were suspecting that the lock screen would look cluttered with the widgets on board but the finish is actually very good. Take a look at the video and you will see that you can swipe right to browse three months on the calendar, while a swipe to the left will bring up the weather app complete with forecasts.
We really like Peekly, but one downside is the complicated install process. Needless to say you will need to have a jailbroken iPhone, and then you will need to use SSH to enter the file library of the iPhone. Despite this Peekly gives a good, well peek into what Apple could do to spice up its iOS design on the new iPhone, so come on Apple, give us lock screen customization!
