Apple just confirmed in an ad that their new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will feature a smaller battery than its predecessor, the iPhone 6.
With the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S preparing to roll out on the markets, Apple promised that both of the new phones will be equipped with a brand new A9X 64-bit processor that will make these new models nearly twice as fast as the company’s previous phones. The rest of their hardware was not neglected either, while the software received an update as well.
Looks like everything will work smoothly. Well, not really. What the company failed to mention is that the battery of these two devices will be smaller compared to that of the iPhone 6.
Thew new iPhone models were announced alongside the new iPad Pro, iPad Mini 4, and Apple TV. It is not unusual for Apple to leave out important details such as RAM & battery size in their launching events. As far as the public availability of their devices’ specification sheet is concerned, the company has been criticized numerous times for being so uncommunicative. As in any other iPhone launch event, Apple hasn’t unveiled the RAM specifications of their current set of devices. Even though die-hard Apple fans demanded an increased amount of RAM in the iPhone, the company continously claims that the operating system will not require that much memory.
Last week, an unknown user from Reddit posted a couple of screenshots of both the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, claiming that they both would be equipped with 2GB of RAM. If these specifications are viable, it means that Apple fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to the multi-tasking potency of the two new models. In a press release from Adobe, it was said that the new iPad Pro would come with 4GB of RAM. Again, good news.
But here’s the catch. As far as the battery capacity is concerned, Apple have been patiently waiting for the right moment to release the information. Yes, they are just that disappointing.
It turns out that the battery of the two brand new iPhone devices will be of only 1710 mAh, which is smaller than the current iPhone 6’s battery of 1810 mAh. To put things in perspective, the new Sony flagship, the Xperia Z5, comes with a 2900 mAh battery, while last years hi-tech budget phone OnePlus One is equipped with a 3100 mAh battery. It sure looks like Apple is falling behind its competition, especially when it comes to hardware.
We can only hope that the company isn’t lying when they boast that the new battery is going to be just as efficient as the one in the iPhone 6S. The company stresses that the 95 mAh difference is irrelevant, because the new iPhone models will feature top of the line battery saving technologies.
According to Apple, the two phones will provide 14 hours of talk time while on a 3G network, up to 10 hours of LTE browsing, and 11 hours of HD video playback at full brightness.
