Some game players out there might throw some conundrums when they hear about a few changes taking place at Valve. Marc Laidlaw leaves from Valve, after 18 years of working with the gaming company.
The senior writer from Valve, who is also the father of the Half-Life universe has publically announced that he will be retiring from the company after 18 years of collaboration. In his official declaration, the veteran writer said that he had to leave the company due to personal reasons.
It could very well be that Laidlaw wants to seek a solo writing career. Apart from siring the Half-Life universe and other gaming concepts, Marc Laidlaw is also a critically-acclaimed sci-fi author. Among his most notable works are Dad’s Nuke, Quickstone, Childrun, Danduken and many other works of fiction.
The author was also awarded the Phillip K. Dick prize for the Neon Lotus, a novel published in 1988. Although the author is stepping down from the gaming scene, his legacy still lives on. And who could forget such a great mind after playing great games such as Half-Life of the Counter-Strike franchise.
But the former Valve author had a lot more things to say on a formal note. Prompted by Laidlaw’s declaration, a Reddit user composed an email to the author, in which he asked him about his decision to leave Valve and about any news regarding the much awaited Half-Life 3.
Marc Laidlaw leaves from Valve, leaving a void in the company’s team of writers. When asked by the Reddit used about his reasons behind his decision to retire from Valve, the senior gamer wrote back that he wanted some time to himself in order to engage in freelance projects.
Moreover, it would seem that the author is keen on releasing more sci-fi novels in the future. Concerning the Half-Life 3 issue, the author managed to avoid the bullet stating that whatever Valve is planning is beyond him now. We don’t know whether to consider this as a strong maybe or that Valve has abandoned the project altogether.
Half-Life is the crowning achievement of Valve. The game concentrates on the endeavors of Gordon Freeman, a physicist working for a top-secret underground research facility called Black Mesa. During one of the experiments, something goes terribly wrong with the facility and the staff. Armed with a crowbar and his wits, Gordon has to face countless opponents and solve mind-boggling puzzles in order to escape from the damned research facility.
