If the leak is accurate, looks like Microsoft has ambitious plans to upgrade its colorful device.
CEO Steve Ballmer of Microsoft boasted on how the company shall set an innovative standard for first-party hardware. That may be the case for a rumored hardware upgrade of the Surface tablet.
According to MS_Nerd in Twitter, regular leaker of Microsoft, whose tweet was picked by NeoWin, Microsoft plans to upgrade the Surface as: Surface RT 2, Surface Pro and Surface Book. Surface RT 2 shall have a display of 8.6-inch and a Qualcomm Inc. SoC chipset which shall be more likely to be Snapdragon 5. Surface Pro shall be a display of 11.6-inch plus Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Temash chip which is reportedly a 28 nm Hondo successor. Surface Book is 14.6 inch display with Intel Corp 22nm Haswell chip.
Both Temash and Hashwell are scheduled to release around the middle of 2013. The fact that the first generation Surface Pro has not been launched yet, it sounds like Microsoft does not plan to roll out the Surface upgrade for another year. If it does this ambitious upgrade though, it could definitely measure up to its set goals that really are high, hardware wise.
There are interesting things here. Microsoft wants to release a smaller screen RT 2, a Pro with a bigger screen and still a bigger screen with Surface Book. However, these are all rumor and until these will be confirmed, then it is good to be skeptical for the main time. After all, the next launch of Microsoft is not far away.
