Google wants to bring its signature operating system into the business environment by creating the new Android for Work program. This innovation wants to conquer the enterprises by offering them a device that offers security and all the features needed to satisfy the needs of both employers and employees.
Unfortunately, the program hasn’t been unveiled yet, even if a preview of the technology has been brought up to the public during its I/O developer conference that has taken place last summer. A lot of old, very successful features are being put together with some new ones in order to create a device that knows how to use its own resources for the well being of all interested customers. The partners of Google all around the world that are experienced in management, devices, applications and networking have been invited to assist. In fact, their presence is impetuously needed in order to verify the approach, after being able to build a new platform..
The grand companies that have accepted in becoming partners on board in order to bring rational and persistent management are Lenovo, HP, Dell, Box, Cisco and SAP. Additionally, they have stated that their companies will help building secure business app and brand new, attractive devices for all those applications that are to be used in the workplace.
SELinux security enforcement and multi-user support from Android 5.0 Lollipop is being used as a default encryption. This support is able to create Work Profiles that keep the data separately and offers it complete security. The work applications can be expanded by the IT departments and the company assures the safety of data in every field that is implied in the project. This same department manages the Android for Work that functions on older devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and up to KitKat. For this particular cases, the app brings secure mail, calendar, contacts, documents, browsing and access to all approved work apps.
However, the businesses can control the activity of their working departments by checking their activity and approving the apps that they are downloading and using at every step of the way, while using Google Play for Work. New features for the e-mail are built in the project, such as tools for email, contacts and calendar that support Exchange and Notes plus editing capabilities for documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
Google’s director for product management for this project is Rajen Sheth has explained his vision.
“We want to make it really easy for IT to say yes to Android and yes to mobility for more people.”
