Apple is building an all-new MacBook Air and will be releasing it during Q3 according to rumours surfacing this week. First reported by the Economic Times in Taiwan, the new Air will be packed with new features, will have improved performance, and will also come with a new sexy design. Of course it is almost certain that Apple will put a Retina Display in the new laptop too.
While that Retina Display was not reported in the initial rumour, news of its inclusion has spread since, and considering Apple is really pushing Retina Displays at the moment, it would seem very likely that the Cupertino based company would include one on a new MacBook Air.
Of course, those already using Apple’s MacBook Pro range of laptops will know all about Retina Display on a notebook. The MacBook Pro 13-inch and 15-inch variants come with Retina Display options, and the company is almost certain to include one on the new 11.6-inch MacBook Air. Currently Apple offers the MacBook Pro with a Retina Display, or more affordably without one, and we think that is a likely tactic with the Air, where customers can chose between having a Retina Display or not.
Apple has had problems before when trying to put a Retina Display on the MacBook Air range. Battery consumption was severely hit on the smaller laptop, with drain occurring at a quicker rate than normal, so to put a Retina Display on a new Air product, the company would have to find a breakthrough for that problem.
A Retina Display would help Apple maintain competitiveness against a high number of Windows 8 laptops hitting the market, devices that have the added feature of a touch screen. When released the new MacBook Air will likely look different to the product we know today, and we expect that a super slim form factor like the MacBook Pro will be utilized.
