Microsoft has implemented a new Cortana update which is bound to make all users keep their promises. The feature is called Suggested Reminders, and it has been announced in January. This new update may be considered polarizing for some people, always reminding them of certain promises that they made. Isn’t this revolutionary?
Microsoft claimed the feature is bound to have a proactive function, being extremely helpful for users. The company believes this may be considered the smarter version of Cortana. To provide this smart feature, Microsoft has used its learning arsenal, especially the machine which focuses on languages. In writing, things may seem simpler.
Nevertheless, differentiating a promise from previous statements made by the users implies the ability to distinguish individual language contexts. Thus, to make this possible, Microsoft used a deep learning artificial intelligence tool. The new Cortana update will primarily look at the user’s emails and texts for insights. For instance, if you send your friend an email where you tell him that you will send him some documents, Cortana will automatically interpret your statement as a promise.
Later, the smart tool will ask you if you want to set a reminder to make sure you send your friend those relevant documents. For the moment, the feature can only be used for Outlook emails and messages sent from your account on Office 365 school and business. Microsoft is bound to implement the smart feature for other email platforms as well as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, some users would believe that this type of feature may be intrusive and they might feel as if being spied an artificial intelligent tool. Some may think it is odd to have a Cortana update which will persistently nag you about keeping your promises made in previous conversations.
This may be similar to the notifications sent by Windows 10 which would regularly pop up, occupying your desktop space. This proactive way of the update implementation indicates that Cortana will act without necessarily receiving input from the user.
If you are eager to try the new Cortana update, you need to connect your Office 365 or Outlook account to the notebook of Cortana by using the related services feature. Based on the info provided by Microsoft, the update will roll out in the background, so you may not know whether your device implemented the feature.
