We were all used to download apps, but now the new technology will replace downloading with streaming. Glu Mobile Inc. is currently working on granting allowance for all users to stream a future app, instead of downloading it. The game developer wants to design a way of using apps, without searching the app store or without even being required to download it.
The app will be streamed by just accessing it with a simple click on the mobile website’s link. You can access the link through e-mail, a social media account or a text. This new ability to access an app without the need to download it is now attentively analyzed by San Francisco Glu Mobile Inc. This project could bring a lot of benefits.
Based on the data revealed by ComScore Inc., approximately half of those who use a smartphone don’t download a single app in a month. Statistics have show that the average user is downloading two apps. Richard Au, who is the senior technical director of a Glu studio, has argued that the high number of existing apps determines every search to be more and more difficult. Sometimes, it gets very hard for smartphone users to find the app they are looking for.
Richard Au claimed that if the new streaming option is implemented, then everybody will benefit from the experience of using the needed app without any limits. This will be a good method to help every user discover new brands and new apps. Unfortunately for large tech companies, this new project may affect their app stores’ businesses. Alphabet Inc. and Apple are just two of the big enterprises that offer a broad range of about two million apps.
These companies are willing to cut 30% of their apps’ price to not lose their business. According to data gathered by the researcher App Annie, in 2020 the total number of profits made by worldwide app stores is estimated to reach $102 billion. This year, studies have demonstrated the figures reached $52 billion.
Raul Castanon-Martinez, who is an analyst at 451 Research, has stated that only one hundred of app stores are currently allowed to use the streaming project. Hopefully, this number will increase up to 100,000 in five years, while the number of app stores will probably drop.
