Xbox One’s success is mainly due to its higher price, but the PS4 is the most popular console this year. The last month was also the best November when it comes to sales for Xbox One.
The report also shows that Call of Duty: WW2 was the most popular game by sales in November. It is also the most sold game this year, followed by Star Wars: Battlefront 2 2017 and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. What’s more, CoD is the most cash-earning video game in the NPD’s record.
Console and Hardware Sales Jumped this Year 52%
Surprisingly, Star Wars Battlefront 2 occupied the second spot despite the monster scandal about microtransactions. Assassin’s Creed: Origins (3rd) was the best-sold edition of the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise since the immensely popular Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag in 2013.
The industry gains jumped 30 percent this year to $2.7 billion, with stellar sales in both hardware and software. The total sale of hardware and software jumped 19% this year from last year’s levels, according to the NPD analysis. Software sales increased 6% throughout the year.
Hardware sales skyrocketed 52% this year to $1.1 billion. O November, hardware sales jumped 28% from last year’s levels. Accessories sales rose by 10%. Buyers were very interested in controllers, which saw a 30% jump in sales from a year prior.
It is worth noting that the NPD analysis doesn’t include other sources of revenue like add-ons, microtransactions and subscriptions. If we take those into the account, the industry fared even better.
