The Internet has become more popular than ever. There are millions of people who have access to it. A huge problem is the online harassment. You know what we are talking about. Those people who have nothing better to do than just sit in front a computer and make others feel bad about themselves. Twitter wants to fight against those people by using keyboard filters.
This is not the first social media networks which take action against online harassment. Instagram has also a new feature that allows users to delete the comments they do not want to see. What will this new feature do? Users will be able to black unpleasant tweets based on offensive words. There were a lot of people who decided not to use Twitter due to the abuse some users did. The app already blocked 235 000 accounts because of terror-related posts. They are giving now this choice for everyone and we have to say we have been expecting it for some time.
The officials said that Twitter is against online harassment and they will do their best to make users feel safe and happier. As we said, we had waited for a long time for this app to do something against harassment. There were many users who did not feel safe while using it and more others who erase their accounts.
Instagram’s new feature blocks the words the company thinks are offensive. Meanwhile, the feature Twitter will launch is allowed for customization. This means users will have more things to say regarding how to make the application a place with no online harassment. You will be able to block as many topics you want from your timeline based on what you like.
Even though Twitter officials did not make any comment on this new feature, they seem to understand why is so important to have it. Online harassment is not something you can joke about. There are people who committed suicide because one person kept making fun of them. Moreover, if popular social networks will not do anything about it, who will? We live in a period where the Internet has more things to say than the authorities. We hope this new feature will make online harassment a smaller issue. Social networks should be used for fun, not to make people feel bad about who they are or what they are doing.
