If we look back at August 2012, the Ouya project managed to raise $8.5 million so that it could get itself started. This accounted for 900% of their initial goals. And now, the people that supported the project have started getting this awesome Android console as early as the 28th of March.
This highly awaited gadget was supposed to be released on June 4th and we had recently heard that it was going to be further delayed. But, we don’t know for how long or why. Check back regularly for the latest updates.
As of now, the Ouya received $15 million worth of funds from new investors Mayfield, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and others. This means that the company’s resources have almost doubled now. As per Ouya founder and chief, Julie Uhrman, the main reason why the release date was pushed back was so that they could produce sufficient units and have a variety of gadgets available by the time the console was released.
If we look at the initial reports regarding the Ouya, the controllers had some problems with the keys sticking every now and then. This may be the reason why the company delayed the release as they didn’t want such issues popping up when the console was made public.
Nonetheless, the release date for the console has now been postponed to the 25th of June. On this date it will be available in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. It is also available through retailers such as GameStop, Game, Target, Amazon and Best Buy. It is also available for pre-order on Ouya.tv for a price of $99.99. The second one can be purchased for just $49.99. A discount of $50. That’s awesome.
So what are you waiting for? Pre-order your console today.
