The developer of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Bayonetta, PlatinumGames, is preparing a new IP. However, there is not much information on the upcoming franchise, as the game is still in the initial stages of development.
PlatinumGames is preparing a ‘formless, shapeless’ IP
Atsushi Inaba, the producer of PlatinumGames, declared during the Japanese BitSummit event that the studio was currently working on a new IP. He called the game formless and shapeless, and would not disclose any more information on it. However, he revealed that this title would feature a new director, but disclosed no names.
In fact, people were ready for a new PlatinumGames IP even from last year’s BitSummit. Back then, Inaba revealed that they thought of creating a new franchise. So far, it seems that the studio might be following their initial plans.
As always, things could change, as they haven’t made any official announcement yet. In fact, Inaba said he wasn’t sure if they would be able to release one game per year, as they have been committed to doing until now.
The studio is now collaborating with other companies to develop games
Initially, the studio wanted to stick to their own franchises and develop games only in this area. However, they changed their mind and started several partnerships and helped with the development of other games as well.
“However, it turns out that only doing that is considerably difficult, and so now we take on various work.”
Among these titles, there are Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (produced by Konami), Transformers: Devastation (by Hasbro), Star Fox Zero (by Nintendo), and the Legend of Korra and TNMT: Mutants in Manhattan (by Activision and Nickelodeon).
Therefore, we are currently waiting for PlatinumGames to make an official announcement regarding the new IP. Until then, players can entertain themselves with the studio’s shooter Vanquish, which has recently received a PC version.
