The virtual assistants market is growing faster and faster. More companies have designed their own assistant. All companies are trying to integrate their digital assistants to different devices or products. Alexa is one of the most well-known digital assistants on the market.
Alexa is Amazon’s assistant. Plex is a media player software and now it is getting voice-control skills. Plex Skill can now be controlled by talking to Alexa. The great digital assistant from Amazon has been integrated to Plex.
In order for Plex users to be able to control the media player, they need to have a Fire table, a Fire TV, or an Echo speaker. All of these devices have Alexa integrated. This means that you won’t have to get the remote in order to play a movie on Plex.
Plex users now have the ability to ask Alexa to play any movie they like. If they are not sure what they want to watch they can ask Alexa what is new and the digital assistant is going to show them some of the great selections of movies available.
Despite the fact that Alexa is integrated for Plex users, they can’t actually play music on their Amazon Echo speakers. This is just a first step for Plex users to get familiar with the home automation. Because it is just the beginning for Plex its users need to know that there are going to be some limitations.
Some of the features that are not supported yet include “Other Videos”, Watch Later, and Plex Cloud. These features can’t be opened and controlled by Alexa. Plex did mention that this is just the beginning for them. They said that all of their features will be voice-controlled in the near future.
Despite the fact that Alexa has some limitations, Plex users can now get familiar with the assistant because in the future they will use it even more. Plex users will have to wait a bit longer before they can fully control the media player via voice. Still, for the media player software is a great step into becoming more popular with the help of Alexa.
What is your opinion about the integration of Alexa for Plex users? Do you believe that it is going to take long before they will be able to fully control Plex via voice?
