A few days ago, Bethesda and Arkane Studios released their highly acclaimed thriller and sci-fi game Prey. Players have already started engaging in challenges, and the YouTube speedrunner DraQu has beaten a record no one would have expected is even physically possible to achieve. He finished the game in less than 20 minutes.
Several hours of gameplay completes in under 20 minutes
On Sunday, DraQu started recording a series of speedrun videos of himself playing Prey. He kept uploading them on YouTube one after the other, and each video beat his previous record. In the end, the last video achieved the world record of 19 minutes and 34 seconds.
This is much less than 12 or 16 hours which most players expected as completion time for this game. Besides, it comes so soon after the official release of the game. On May 5th, Prey entered the market, and speedrunners did not waste time, so they immediately started battling for the best completion time.
DraQu used clever techniques and glitches
The open-world universe of Prey encourages players to go and explore the surroundings, but DraQu found other ways to race through the game. He ran swiftly beyond most of the boundaries in the game and breezed his way until the end by skillfully using only a glue gun and a wrench.
When asked about how he succeeded to set this record, DraQu said the glitches and tricks he used were inspired from a Discord group of speedrunners. Usually, the first weeks after a game is released are a bit chaotic for speedrunning, but this is what he finds particularly interesting and challenging.
However, he is not planning to stop here. He went from a completion time of an hour to 20 minutes only in a few days, so now he wants to break his own record. After perfecting his own techniques, he wants to achieve an even more incredible record.
