You can recharge your phone in 1 Minute with new aluminum battery.
A low cost and very efficient aluminum battery developed by the researchers at the Stanford University could charge your phone in only one minute. The Stanford University experts revealed the new battery this week and stated they are confident in its success. After all, smartphones run low on energy relatively faster and such a solution would solve a part of one of the biggest problems of our era: time.
The substances used for the production of this new battery are aluminum and graphite. Stanford University researchers have emphasized one of the most important advantages of this composition: both substances are considerably inexpensive, as Ming Gong, who is a graduate student, has commented on the matter.
But more relevant is the aspect of the safety provided by the new type of aluminum battery. For example, if you were to drill through a conventional battery in your laptop or smartphone, the immediate result of your action would be lighting a fire. However, the new battery is not responsive to such actions. Student Ming Gong has accomplished a video demonstration of the safety provided by the aluminum battery: he drilled through it and no reaction occurred.
“You can drill through the aluminum battery pouch, and it will continue working for a while longer without catching fire. But lithium batteries can go off in an unpredictable manner—in the air, the car or in your pocket.”
stated Hongjie Dai, a chemistry professor at the Stanford University.
Furthermore, the new battery developed by the Stanford researchers can charge your phone up to 7,500 times. This is a performance that tops even the one of the batteries of lithium-ion type. That type of battery can be used for charging about one thousand times before racking up.
The Stanford researchers` battery has an anode charged negatively. Its cathode is positively charged. But not both of them are made of aluminum. The material used for the cathode is graphite.
“People have tried different kinds of materials for the cathode.We accidentally discovered that a simple solution is to use graphite, which is basically carbon. In our study, we identified a few types of graphite material that give us very good performance.”
said professor Hongjie Dai.
The researchers said that the battery is both secure and flexible. They added it could be used for a large area of gadgets, including laptops, smartphones, tablets and wearables.
