The Korean producer announced the introduction of the Samsung EV battery which should come to cover more than 300 in a single, 20-minutes long charge.
The area of electromobility has been increasing. More and more automakers are offering electric models. As their numbers are growing, the sector is facing an age-old problem. More exactly, its power source. Most such models need quite their share of recharges. As such, most do not use electric cars when taking long trips.
But a company may have solved this issue. Samsung SDI has announced the introduction of a new product. The Samsung EV battery should offer a solution to the charging problem.
Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Samsung group. It is part of their electronics division. SDI is specialized in the production of various products. These include batteries, accumulators, and screens. Samsung is a South Korean company. Based in Seoul, the multination conglomerate operates in a variety of area.
Now, its SDI subsidiary will introduce a new, smart battery. The Samsung EV battery has been presented as a next generation product. It will be “a high-density battery cell”. The product should come to account for an increased driving range.
As such, it should provide the car with power for more than 300 miles. It will also have a fast charging time. The battery should be fully charged in about 20 minutes. It will become available for EVs.
Such EVs or electric vehicles owners may also select another new concept. This latter will be the “integrated battery module”. It should offer a 10 percent decrease when compared to current models. The decrease will be felt in the component units. As well as in their weight.
The Samsung EV battery should come to alleviate driver distance worries. A 20-minutes rest time on the highways should recharge the respective EV’s batteries. As such, the vehicle’s mileage can increase. A Samsung EV battery mass production is expected to begin sometime in 2021.
This Innovative Next Generation Battery was presented earlier this week. It was previewed on January 09. Its presentation came as part of the NAIAS 2017. NAIAS is the North American International Auto Show.
The company presented several other products as well. Besides the Samsung EV battery, it also presented an “integrated battery module”.
Usual EV battery modules have a specific data set. They are based on 12 cells. These account for a 2 – 3kWh capacity. An integrated battery module will reportedly have a higher capacity.
This latter will be based on over 24 cells. These will support a 6 – 8kWh capacity. Such a product should become an adequate future module. It could be a part of the high-capacity, full-fledged EV era.
Integrated battery modules will also reportedly have a higher safety level. An advanced electro-mechanical special design should account for this latter fact. The new battery module will also be lighter. That is because it will have fewer components.
Samsung SDI is reportedly expecting a rising demand for such products. Still, the integrated battery modules are seen as quite a boon in the area.
The Samsung EV battery, as well as the module, are expected to consolidate the company’s reach in the domain. More exactly, Samsung SDI is expected to be amongst the future electromobility lead authorities. This is according to a company official.
The same representative also pointed out another fact. These latest technologies are expected to increase the vehicle electrification rates. They could do so as they advantage certain factors.
For example, they increased the driving range. They also raise the manufacturing efficiency. User convenience should also be advantaged by such technologies.
