Samsung Announces Galaxy Camera Wi-Fi : say good-bye to the monthly data plan!

Samsung has announced a Wi-Fi version of its classy Galaxy Camera. The Android powered snapper launched last year with 3G and 4G capabilities and also packed Wi-Fi, making it a super-connected camera. The Korean company has decided to issue a new variant of the Galaxy Camera and has waved goodbye to 3G and 4G connectivity in favour of a Wi-Fi only approach.

Although, there is no need to worry, for those of you who still need to stay connected in every situation, then the original 3G/4G Galaxy Camera is still available. Samsung says it has released the Wi-Fi only version as a more affordable alternative to those who do not need to be connected at all times. In other words the company is making its device available to a wider demographic.

It could actually become the case that the Wi-Fi option becomes the more popular of the two Galaxy Camera variants. One of the major faults of the Galaxy cam is the fact that the 3G/4G version requires a SIM card complete with a data plan, which means for customers an extra charge on a monthly phone bill. Of course, if you have no intention of utilizing the connection options then the Galaxy Camera was actually an unattractive proposition.

Obviously there are some out there who want the full experience, or at least need the 3G or 4G connectivity, but for those who do not, the Wi-Fi only option is now available. The new model does away with the data plans, and makes sense considering most users can probably make do with just Wi-Fi connectivity, no matter how dedicated a photographer they are.

Luckily aside from removing the connection variations, Samsung has kept the Galaxy Camera as is. There’s still a 1/2.3 inch 16.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, coupled with a F2.8-5.9 lens and 21x optical zoom. The snapper is still powered by a 1.4 GHz Quad-Core processor, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is pulling the strings, there’s 8 GB of internal storage and a 4.8-inch HD touchscreen on the rear.

Samsung has not released official price details but we would be shocked if it is not cheaper than the 3G/4G model Galaxy Camera.
