Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is managing to steal the thunder from rival devices even though its launch is weeks away. LG is showing off its Optimus Pro G next week at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, while Sony is launching the Xperia Z next week, but both flagship handsets are being overshadowed by the imminent Galaxy S4, the sequel to Samsung’s all-conquering Galaxy S3.
We have received a solid rumour today that suggests the Korean electronics giant will launch the Galaxy S4 at a press event in New York City on March 14th. And if you thought the Galaxy S3 was a success then you will be blown away by sales predictions surrounding the S4. Analysts are predicting that the device will sell a whopping 100 million units this year alone.
That would give Apple plenty to worry about. Samsung heads the smartphone market, and the S3 has been a huge success, but as a single device the iPhone from Apple sells the most, even when compared to the near 40 million units of the Galaxy S3 sold (the iPhone 5 sold nearly that amount in one quarter).
Interestingly, it is not just the analysts predicting that 100 million sales for the S4 and in fact they are getting their info straight from Samsung. The company has planned to build 100 million units this year, and while building 100 million and selling 100 million are two different things, Samsung must plan to shift most of those it builds.
While we have our doubts that the S4 will shift that many, we have no doubt it will be a huge seller and will cement Samsung as the Android brand of choice. Will it best the iPhone or just be a credible second as the S3 is now? Only time will tell, but we do know in terms of specs the Galaxy S4 will take some beating, even by Apple’s product.
