Word on the street is that the Xperia Z Ultra from Sony has been scheduled for a release on September 13, which if true will mean it’s just a few days that will separate the Sony launch from that of its competitor, the Galaxy Note 3’s unveiling. The next gen Samsung phablet is expected to be launched on September 4, just two days prior to the 2013 edition of the IFA kicks off on September 6. Sony had hinted at a launch window of the third quarter of this year during the unveiling of the Xperia Z Ultra earlier in the year. While, we are well into that period, an official release date is still elusive. However, retailers seem to be settling down to the date of September 13 which might not have been set in stone yet though does seem to have the highest probability right now. The credit for coming across a specific launch date should go to XperiaBlog that had first comes across at the likely launch date of September 13.
Retailers Clove, Handtec as well as Amazon are also expecting the release date of Xperia Z Ultra to be on 13th September which is just two months away. However, Samsung and Sony are not the only two companies that will be launching their own take on a phablet device this September. In fact, the month of September can well be considered as the month of phablets what with HTC too expected to unveil its One Max, the phablet version of its One smartphone during the same month.
Coming back to the Sony offering, the Xperia Z Ultra is no doubt a massive device, even from the most conservative of estimates. However, it has perhaps set upon itself an even bigger task, that of taking on the segment leader, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Towards that, its makers have endowed with specs which speak of a 6.4 inch 1080p display which will make it the biggest among phablets, even nearer to tablet devices. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have a display screen of 5.7 inches. The device will also include an 8 mp camera though the most unique aspect of the Sony phablet is that apart from being compliant with the standard stylus, users can also use a regular pencil to write on the display. These apart, the Xperia Ultra is built around a quad core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz all of which will be encased within a dust and water resistant body.
