Sony launched their latest flagship device yesterday at IFA (International Funkausstellung) Berlin 2015. The device boasts with a 4k screen, which marks a new milestone in the history of smartphones. Can the one year-old iPhone 6 Plus hold a handle to Sony’s new flagship? We made a short comparison between the two devices in order to find out.
Display: There is no question that Sony Xperia Z5’s display is better than the one in the iPhone 6 Plus. Though both displays have the same size – 5.5 inch IPS LCD screens, the Z5 is equipped with the most advanced smartphone screen to date. Compared to the 1080×1920 pixels screen of the 6 Plus, the new Sony flagship has a 4k resolution screen (2160×3840 pixels), with a density of 806 ppi, which doubles the one of the iPhone. Sony’s model also features a new Triluminos technology that will enhance its colors and contrast.
Design: The iPhone 6 Plus looks like its smaller sibling (iPhone 6) on steroids. It has the familiar unibody with curved ages and is made of metal. It comes in three colors (silver, gray, and gold) and it features a fingerprint sensor. The Xperia Z5 has its front and back covered with frosted glass and frames made of metal. Just like the iPhone 6 Plus, it comes in three colors (black, gold, and chrome). This smartphone also comes with a fingerprint scanner. The phone has a IP68 certification, that means it is water resistant and can withstand being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
Specs: Xperia Z5 can boast with a state of the art octa-core CPU of four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5ghz, coupled with an Adreno 430 GPU. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with an Apple A8 chipset along with a 2-core Cyclone GPU clocked at 1.43 Ghz and a PowerVr GX6450 GPU. As for RAM, the Xperia Z5 has 3GB, whereas the iPhone 6 Plus lags behind with a memory of only 1 GB.
Storage: iPhone 6 Plus doesn’t come with a memory slot, therefore you are left with a memory of 16, 64 or 128 GB. The Xperia Z5. on the other hand, comes with 32 GB of storage space but it allows for the addition of an impressive 200 GB of external storage.
Battery: The X5 is supplied by a 3430 mAh battery, which promises up to two days of charge, whereas the iPhone 6 Plus has a 2915 mAh battery,
Camera: The new Sony device comes with a better camera than the iPhone. At 23 megapixels, the iPhone’s 8 megapixel camera offers little to no competition to the X5.
Price: Though the price of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and of its smaller sibling, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, have not yet been revealed, rumors say that it would match the price tag of the Apple current flagship device, of whose 128 GB version comes with a price of $499 with a 2 year contract, or $299 for the 16gb version.
