Blizzard has their own unique style that makes things look awesome, sounds awesome, be awesome. There is no doubt that Blizzard is one of, if not the best, gaming companies in the world, focusing on great player experience and legacy games that have lasted for decades. Today’s spotlight falls on Starcraft 2, which has received a major user interface change and makes you feel 5 centuries ahead of our time.
The game looks amazing from the moment you enter campaign selection, where you can see every available campaign and the progress you’ve made within it. Campaigns are easy to spot based on the character depicted underneath the campaign name: Raynor for Wings of Liberty, Zerg Kerrigan for Heart of the Swarm and Artanis for Legacy of the Void. These brand new shiny models will make your eyes go wild.
The second aspect that Blizz wanted to improve was the social experience. It is, indeed, a lot easier to send and receive information in the game with the new UI and the issue was solved by splitting the screen in two. The game choices that you can make in the game are distributed on the left side of the screen, while the right side is specifically dedicated to the chat.
The chat is vast, consisting of multiple chats you can be in at the same time, all displayed in the same window. The window can be kept at a standard size, enlarged or minimized, depending on your choice. But don’t worry, you can still see specific windows for specific chats. If you were busy playing a game or went AFK for a couple of minutes, you can always go to the chat window and see what you missed.
What you might also be interested in are some Arcade improvements, which Blizzard saw hit to change once they saw how the social interface would change the game. The games are now organized on a list, which is very easy to go through and helps you make your decisions faster. After all, the faster you decide, the more you play. The old “click on map, view, get out, repeat” system was removed for a greater experience.
These changes are going to hit your Battle.net account on November 10th, so make sure you are one of the first to get them. Starcraft 2 is so much better now!
