Vessel Has Just Opened its Gates

January 21, 2015 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

vessel Vessel has just opened its gates for its public. Vessel is an online video platform such as Youtube. However, Jason Kilar, its founder hopes to bring something new to this business. Vessel will be opened for invite-only beta starting from January 21st.

Jason Kilar left his position as CEO of Hulu back in 2013. After collecting his paychecks from ABC, NBC Universal and NewsCorp Kilar decided a change of perspective was in order. So he decided the place where his next journey will take him. It seems that Jason Kilar decided to pursue video platforms. So he created Vessel.

This online video platform is rather complex in comparison to others. It involves ad-support platforms as well as subscription-based ones.  In other words, the video platform provides with three distinct revenue streams and several types of advertising formats.

These features were especially requested by Kilar himself in order to give its users an astonishing level of revenue. It platform uses exclusive windows designed especially for its content creators.

At a recent conference, Kilar presented his video project through a set of explanatory slides. The first ones illustrated a distribution model which is most commonly used in film industry. Looking from Kilar’s perspective, this pattern allows distinct viewers to enjoy films. So the movies are to humor and cater to everyone’s needs.

The next slides showed a distribution model used in the TV industry. It is a similar one to the film industry. That means users will have the possibility to watch their favorite TV shows broadcasted live. These users are usually huge fans who want to see their shows as soon as they appear.

The following slide is a comparison of online home video to film and TV industries. Most avid fans will have the opportunity to watch preferred creators in a productive way.

The website can function as a weekend box office targeting online video community while other users access for free YouTube to watch newly released videos.

In order to become a Vessel user, people will need to take money out of their pockets. A monthly subscription fee costs 2,99 dollars and offers unlimited access to all video content. Users will also have to interact with advertisements. Some of them will suddenly appear as a pop-out while navigating through the website. These ads are called “digital magazine ads”. Others are pre-rolls which last for about five seconds.

Kilar feels confident that his new released video platform, Vessel will be among major video platform around the world.
