PlayStation And Xbox Fans Beware

October 16, 2015 By Daniel Giordano Leave a Comment

PlayStation and Xbox fans beware.

PlayStation And Xbox Fans Beware

PlayStation and Xbox fans beware. There is a new player coming in town and it looks like it has the potential to compete with both consoles. Notice that we said the potential to compete, not overtake, because such a statement would be rather risky to mention. But this new console does have a couple of good names backing it up, which could boost it up among the world’s most favorites.

We are talking about the Alienware Steam Machine. While the console is still around half a month away from its release on November 10th, some lucky “gentle gamers” have managed to get their hands on this beauty. It is the embodiment of almost everything gaming stands for PC wise: Steam and Alienware, two brands that every gamer would love to have under their roof.

As a side note, we have to mention that this product should not be mistaken for the Alpha Windows 8.1 gaming box. This thing is totally different since the Alienware Steam Machine comes fully equipped with a Valve Steam OS platform. Moreover, this baby is not trying to present itself as gaming gear, potential PC. No, this thing is made for games exclusively. If you want to do your homework, you cannot rely on it, unless you want to get distracted from doing homework, of course.

Valve want to make sure that gamers don’t leave their houses anymore, so they are pairing up Steam hardware alongside Alienware’s. Together they make an unstoppable team of gaming awesomeness, which is very likely to keep players glued for a few days in a row, especially after they bought this new gaming beast.

There are downsides, however. Do not think that Valve have made things a lot easier with this machine, or a lot cheaper. In fact, the Alienware Steam Machine is $50 more expensive than the world’s most favorite consoles: the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Valve even managed to make controls a lot more difficult, which deters player experience. Gamers like to keep controls simple and games hard. Not both at the same time.

So PlayStation and Xbox fans beware, but not too much. There are a few users who claim that they would not recommend the product to new gamers, or even players who have been in the industry for a long period of time. Practically, the device is somewhere in between “innovative” and “totally not what I am looking for.” The best course of action right now is to wait and see how it evolves. It can be a product that can surpass expectations

Alienware 13 Gaming Laptop Demo Version Release

August 8, 2014 By Micheal Baptiste Leave a Comment

For gamers, equipment size has always been a known issue. Most gaming enthusiasts still prefer having a well-built desktop computer. Gaming requires lots of processing power, which demands lots of energy. The problem with gaming laptops is that of constructing a machine that will offer respectable performances while offering a decent battery.

Alienware is one of the most established laptop gaming line. But throughout its history, Alienware models were extremely bulky. Recently, that began to change and right now we can say that with the latest model, we are looking at a true gaming laptop, not mobile gaming desktop.

The Alienware 13 gaming laptop is only an inch thick, an impressive achievement, compared to Alienware 14 and even 11. With a weight of only 4.5 pounds, it will actually not break your back while carrying it.  Alienware 14 is two pounds heavier, so that is a real improvement.

The Alienware 13 gaming laptop will come with three displays. The standard will be a 1366 X 768 TN display. A mid-tier option is the Full HD 1920 X 1080, which comes with IPS technology. The top of the line will be the 2560 x 1440 IPS display.

Sure, the Alienware 13 cannot compare with the Razer gaming laptop released earlier this year, which comes with a whopping 3200 X 1800 resolution. But the display comes with a price to match.

Alienware 13 gaming laptop comes with decent specs

In what regards some of the most important specs, the gaming machine will be powered by i5 and i7 processors, similarly to last year’s Alienware model. Alienware chose the Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M to be featured on Alienware 13. PC World thinks this video card is well suited for the machine, but it is not future proof. The 860M video card offers 70.4 fps at full HD resolution, which is medium video quality in Bioshock Infinite.

Alienware 13 gaming laptop is available as a demo version

The Alienware 13 gaming laptop will be released in November, just in time for some Holiday shopping. The price is not available yet, but we presume the standard version will not empty your pockets the way other gaming laptops do. Considering the previous pricing of Alienware machines, we expect to find the Alienware 13 gaming laptop at somewhere around $1100.

So far, the new Alienware laptop impresses us by its form, rather than its performance. The 13 model makes turns gaming truly mobile with its 1 inch thickness.

Valve scoops 14 companies to make Steam Machines in 2014

January 7, 2014 By David Leave a Comment

alienware-steam-machine

Valve has been pushing out its Steam Machine project for the past few months, combining the hardware (Steam Machine), software (Steam OS) and Steam Controller together to make a customisable console to beat the incoming next generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony.

It looks like the marketing pitch worked, as Valve has announced fourteen different partners that will work on Steam Machine in 2014. The list has Alienware, Alternate, CyberPowerPC, Digital Storm, Falcon NW, GigaByte, iBuyPower, Maingear, Material.net, Next Spa, Origin PC, Scan, Webhallen, Zotac.

Alienware is the obvious highlight of this list, the others are mostly big custom PC makers, who have little branding compared to Alienware. The Steam Machine will be customisable and both users and OEM partners can add different parts to make it higher or lower quality.

All Steam Machines will come with the Steam Controller, but there are some partners wondering about how Steam OS will fair and are preparing to dual-boot Windows OS onto their machines, to make it a more familiar and usable interface for some customers.

Valve’s Gabe Newell has already said he is not afraid of the Xbox One and finds Apple to be the biggest threat to Steam, pushing out the Steam Machine and Steam OS is a way to cultivate gamers into one channel, instead of playing on Windows for PC and Xbox for console.

The Steam Machines have a variety of prices, anywhere from $400 to $2600 with specs ranging from a AMD Radeon R9 to the Nvidia 780 Ti, one of the top GPUs behind the Nvidia Titan. No big PC manufacturer has joined in the Steam OS battle, but we didn’t expect them to given the level of customisation they would need to offer.

Anyone thinking Steam is a small fish in the water against Xbox and PlayStation would be wrong, Valve has already announced around 60 million signups since Steam’s launch, more live users than Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
