Neo Tokyo Is Rocket League’s Newest Pace Changing Map

June 11, 2016 By David Crozier Leave a Comment

The Neo Tokyo Map brings many cyberpunk elements to Rocket League, giving it futuristic 80's feel.

New Map, New Arena, New Cars, Awesome Soundtrack, June 20th will be a good day.

It would seem that the Rocket League team is not going to be taking breaks anytime soon and they are definitely not slowing down. Neo Tokyo is the new map that will be added to the game and with it comes a possibly refreshing change to the pace of the game.

As the Neo Tokyo map hits Rocket League live, players can expect several optimization changes overall as well as a few other features. While most of the announced features seem to be adding cosmetic items or affecting already existing cosmetic items, there is one feature that stands out the most.

With the Neo Tokyo map, Rocket League will also have a new experimental arena called “Pillars”. The interesting part about the new arena is that, unlike the regular Rocket League field, it will be divided into three lanes. The player hype seems to be present in regards to initial announcements regarding the Pillars arena but the player base has not yet had the opportunity to try it out so reviews and opinions are still based on hypotheticals in a majority of cases.

Alongside the Neo Tokyo map, Rocket League will be also adding premium DLC which will include two new cars. The cars, dubbed Masamune and Esper, look stunning and share the art style and cyberpunk texture design of the new map. Each of the cars is priced $1.99 or your local regional equivalent.

As of now, the Neo Tokyo map is scheduled to be launched worldwide on June 20th. With the several cosmetic additions and social interface improvements, old players are sure to return.

The DLC cars however, will be arriving to Rocket League a bit later, with players who own the Collector’s Edition being given the chance to get ahead of time.

Release dates for owners of the Collector’s Edition is July 5th in North America. Everyone else will have to wait until July 18th, almost an entire month after the scheduled release of the Neo Tokyo map, before being able to grab either Esper, Masamune, or both. Some players may still have a hard time choosing one of the two even then.

Will you be returning to Rocket League after June 20th and are you more interested in the Neo Tokyo map or in the Pillars arena? Let us know.
