Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Comes With A New Dungeon Locked Behind an Amiibo

January 15, 2016 By Brandi McCants Leave a Comment

"wolf link amiibo"

Although it might look nice, don’t be fooled, this Amiibo is basically a day one DLC.

It seems that Nintendo really likes to lock things behind Amiibo paywalls because the Wii U Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD comes with a new dungeon locked behind an Amiibo. This information was taken from Amazon France by the ever-vigilant people from Neogaf and Nintendo Life before the company managed to pulls the information off the site.

The Amiibo in question is the Wolf Link one, with small Midna riding on top of Link while he is in his wolf form. The people from Neogaf managed to uncover even more information besides the all-new dungeon which can only be accessed with the Amiibo, with other figures being used to give life regen or replenish arrow supplies.

The concept of locking game content behind Amiibo paywalls it’s not a new one. It’s basically just like a normal DLC that comes with an additional plastic figurine. But due to the fact that these DLCs are actually limited, in comparison to normal DLCs being completely digital, Nintendo managed to make their DLCs sell like hot cakes.

Some people have even joked about the possibility of Nintendo releasing a new Pokemon game that encompasses all known Pokemon, bot only 5 figures of each individual Pokemon will be made available on the market. One can easily imagine people fighting in the streets over that one rare Pokemon that will allow you to play with Pikachu or Mew, for instance.

Splatoon also suffered from content locked behind Amiibo use, with no other way of unlocking said content through any means besides using a figurine. Nintendo has yet to comment on the availability of the new dungeon besides using the Amiibo, for example putting it up on the e-shop after the game’s release.

It is rather interesting how the general public reacted to what is basically offering day one DLCs by using Amiibos as a sort of cover. The collector spirit which resides in most gamers public in excitement, mostly due to the quality of the figures and their apparent benign nature, using them only for skins or other cosmetics. But this changed as Amiibos increased in popularity, with Nintendo actually locking chunks of the game already available on the disc behind this paywall.

One can easily remember the fiasco caused by Capcom with Street Fighter that had several characters already on the disc, even if the company said that these fighters will only be available later along the line.

The public backlash in regards to the alleged fact that the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD comes with a new dungeon locked behind an Amiibo will emerge once the game will be released on the 4th of March. The general public should be expecting several discussions sparked by game critics if this day one DLC is proven to be only available to the owners of the Wolf Link Amiibo.
