Old Blizzard Games Will Be Revived
Blizzard is looking to the past and old Blizzard games will be revived. This is the message that the company has given indirectly by opening a post for “classic games engineer”. The games that we are going to talk about are around 15 years old, or even more, and Blizzard considers that it would be a good idea to have them all back in the spotlight for nowadays’ gamers.
We are talking about some big titles back in the day like Diablo 2, Starcraft and the Warcraft 3 games, which were arguably the best games that the company has ever released. In an era in which there was no Twitch, no YouTube to show you how to finish the content in 1 day and no good internet connection, people would spend hours a day playing these masterpieces.
The current generation does not know much about Tyrael’s interventions, about Tassadar’s sacrifice and about how the Kaldorei traded their immortality to save the world and these were in fact the stories that made Blizzard games the most preferred in their generation. We did not have a number of subscribers back then, just tales about why you should buy those games because they were super awesome.
Needless to say, Blizzard are not just looking for anybody to revamp these games. Actually, if you are a very experienced engineer and you love the Blizzard universe, you might just be in, but for an interview and not the actual job. The company has made it very clear that, apart from being talented and passionate about your job, you also need to be able to accomplish tough jobs in short time.
After all, we are talking about some serious titles here. Bringing back Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft requires great knowledge, graphical polishing skill, you should know how to fix bugs that were an issue and were left behind in 2003. Above everything else, these were titles with great success and Blizzard is surely going to triple check whoever is going to work on these games.
Blizzard has been successful in the past few years with its grand World of Warcaft, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. The new FPS OverWatch seems like it is going to enjoy the spotlight for a good period of time as well. The main issue is that many players have hopped into these new games recently, without knowing anything about the games’ history.
This is why old Blizzard games will be revived: to give players insight about how things were before World of Warcraft and before the first problematic release of Diablo 3. Blizzard games were quite beautiful back in the day.
