Your Facebook Newsfeed will beneficiate of supervision by the administrators of Facebook who believe that what you are posting is misleading or just hoaxes. The amount of posts that are not logical, not true, or their title induces errors, like “Man falls off egg”, “Duck found on moon”, “Bigfoot spotted”, will be flagged or blocked. Facebook states that this sort of posts waste the time of users and annoy them, and as a consequence, they start leaving Facebook.
“The goal of News Feed is to catch up with your friends and find the things that matter to you. We’re always looking to people on Facebook to tell us how we can improve this experience . Today’s update to News Feed reduces the distribution of posts that people have reported as hoaxes and adds an annotation to posts that have received many of these types of reports to warn others on Facebook. We are not removing stories people report as false and we are not reviewing content and making a determination on its accuracy.”
Some people believe that this measure has been taken in order to help the advertisers, but Facebook definitely infirms this reason, saying that the posts that have to remain are those which can really be important to users.
Furthermore, Facebook’s intention is to save some uninformed people from making errors and appearing as a fool in front of others, because of this hoaxes. This kind of posts will be flagged and hence, the users will be revealed the parodies and gags.
However, satirical content won’t be endangered, as long as it shows, in any way, the fact that the site or the news is actually a parody.
The reason behind all this measures is that often users blame Facebook for being mislead by hoaxes, false viral videos or articles. They believe that Facebook is responsable for approving content that is not at all appropriating. Even if it is about boring marketing posts, viral statements, game spams, false information, it becomes a problem of business for Facebook. But the social networking site keeps it positive: as long as the untrue, inaccurate and faulty posts are taken out of the system, there is more space for the good ones.
Users can report themselves the content of this kind of hoaxes. On Facebook’s site, when an user chooses to hide a story, he also has the possibility of reporting the content and everything goes from there.
