Verizon Wireless has knocked $80 off the price for the Moto G, just about the best cheap Android smartphone on the market right now. This has dropped the smartphone down to just $99 off contract, making it one of the cheapest available on the service.
The Moto G is not the best choice when it comes to high-end smartphones, but it is a big move by Motorola into the low-end market. The Moto G represents how even the cheapest components can come together into a nicely built package, offering a lot better than what customers normally get for $99.
It is a pretty incredible price, especially considering the smartphone will be running Android KitKat 4.4.2 sometime this month, the latest version of the OS. More impressive since it comes with almost stock Android, without the horrendous UI some low-end Android phones receive.
Verizon Wireless has not been the killer carrier when it comes to deals – in fact, they can be one of the slowest companies to drop prices and hardly ever market against other carriers aggressively. Still, they are the biggest and offering the Moto G for $99 may be a great buy in for first time Android users.
Motorola has yet to release any news regarding the Moto G and how well it has performed, both in the US and globally. We cannot see this being the same hyped up smartphone in the US as the Moto X was, but it may have grabbed a lot of low-end smartphone users in its first month.
