Facebook has been the top social media platform among teenagers for many years, and nobody thought another might soon come and take its place. Now, it turns out its popularity has started to fade among its younger users. A recent report developed by the Pew Research Center has revealed teenagers are now spending the least time on Facebook, with YouTube and Snapchat being the hottest platforms of the moment.
Facebook gradually lost its popularity among teens
Everyone can use social media but, just like anything that involves technology, it gathers a lot of supporters among teenagers. In many cases, they can decide the fate of a trend, with their lack of interest predicting a possible decline of the trend in question. This is quite bad news for Facebook, since teens are drifting away from it.
The report shows that 95 percent of kids between 13 and 17 have a smartphone. Therefore, finding the top social media platform among teenagers can say a lot about the platform in question. During the 2014-2015 survey, 71 percent of these teens used Facebook. Now, the service faced a sudden drop in popularity, with 51 percent of kids using it.
Which is the top social media platform among teenagers?
In contrast, they now use other platforms. For instance, 85 percent of them use YouTube, 72 percent use Instagram, and 69 percent use Snapchat. From all of these, the most visited seems to be Snapchat, with 35 percent. Then, it’s closely followed by YouTube, with 32 percent. Instagram lies quite far away, with only 15 percent, while Facebook occupies only the fourth place with 10 percent.
Therefore, the title of top social media platform among teenagers is disputed between YouTube and Snapchat. What is clear is the fact that today’s teens are no longer so interested in using Facebook as often as before. It’s hard to tell what this means at the moment.
