Some users have reported that one common problem is that the assistant fails to detect newly-added smart-home devices. Experts recommend first to check whether the new tech is compatible with Alexa on the company’s site.
You should check the list on a constant basis as it is constantly improved with new brands and techs. Next, go to Smart Home tab in Alexa and look for Your Devices setting. There you should see Discover Devices tab. From there connect the device to the main system.
If Alexa cannot see the new hardware, you may have one of these two problems: you either used the wrong command or there is a connectivity problem triggered by a crowded network, software glitch, or power supply issues.
Make sure that you use the correct command also known as invocation since commands are very specific depending on the device. The other problem you can solve by flipping a light switch if the issue has something to do with the power supply. If that fails too, try to boot Alexa and/or unplug the device and try to set it from zero again.
Users also reported troubles with Alexa staying connected to the wireless network. There are countless online guides on how to fix this. Nevertheless, the rule of thumb is to power cycle the entire system from router to Alexa. You should also move the gadget farther from other electronic devices and closer to the router. Additionally, set the gizmo to a 5 GHz channel to lower the risk of interference.
Another common problem is Alexa going deaf-like. In time, Alexa’s ability to hear you may decrease. You should ensure that the speaker is not crowded by any nearby object.
Additionally, power cycle the speaker and if that doesn’t work either try moving the device farther from any other object including walls. Ensure that there are at least 8 inches between Echo and possible obstacles.
Alexa may not hear you right because of another issue. Some users noticed that their assistant’s ability to react to voice commands is incredibly lower when they have the air conditioning on. Some AC systems can boost noise level in a room and disturb Alexa. And the problem can persist with any other noisy appliance.
