The world wide relevant social platform Twitter has recently made an announcement which has started a lot of fuss around itself within forums in which both tech experts and tech enthusiasts express their opinions on various matters concerning the world of technology. With the new update that the company has integrated to the platform, Twitter allows anyone to direct message you, without being limited by any direct rulings.
On Monday, Twitter has announced a change in the communications policies between users. From now on, it will no longer be required to follow a specific account in order to send a direct message to that account`s owner.
However, officials talking on behalf of Twitter has announced that the Settings section of the platform will feature an option that will limit the possibility of any account sending direct messages randomly. Users will be able to turn off or turn on the new update`s feature in order to specify if they want or not to receive direct messages from accounts that do not follow them.
In addition to that, the new update integrated in the Twitter social platform also allows direct replies without taking into account whether the account figures as followed or not.
When it comes to users of the Twitter mobile app, both users of Android or iOS run devices will now see a Direct Message button when they are viewing someone else`s profile or their own profiles.
Nhu Vuong, who is in the position of Senior Software Engineer has expressed Twitter`s perspective on the change. The official has stated that Twitter sees the modification as an improvement which intends to lead to an easier way of getting in touch with people with Twitter accounts. However, many analysts in the field have expressed a different view of the matter. Many of them have said that the new change implemented by Twitter is in opposition to the recent policy of the social platform, regarding privacy and the fight against harassment on social media.
Beginning with February, Twitter has started to receive negative feedback from its users in connection with the way the social platform deals with abuses, like those of harassment over the internet. The daughter of Robin Williams, Zelda and Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic and also a writer on feminism have publicly talked about the abuses which they had to confront as users of the Twitter social platform.
