Hackers have been trying to dismantle some of the top banking sites in the United States for past few weeks but this time they have decided to target Twitter which is one of the top microblogging sites in the world. According to Reuters, the site has been hacked by anonymous hackers and it is assumed that they have access to more than 250,000 user accounts and passwords that might be vulnerable.
Twitter’s Information Security Director Bob Lord has said that they believe that the hacking has been done by a group of hackers that are very professional and they have tried their best to hack the information. However, he said that only certain amount of information has been hacked like the user account name as they have secured servers that do not allow easy access to passwords.
He also said that they have been working on the number of accounts that have been compromised and as precautionary measures they have decided to make changes to the passwords that will allow users to keep their information safe. Twitter revealed that they are already notifying some of the users about the change of passwords that they have made on precautionary measures.
Twitter also said that they are aware that there are some group of hackers that are violating international cyber laws and trying to penetrate deeper into various banking and financial sites related to New York City and Wall Street. The company so far has not provided any information on the methodology that hackers have used to break into the system.
While Twitter has condemned the hacking events they have not particularly targeted China for the problems. Twitter said that they are currently working with federal law enforcement officials and government and that will allow them to track down the hackers and bring them to justice in the future.
