It has been two years since WhatsApp was bought by Facebook. According to the latest news, the app will allow its parent company to use its data. Privacy is important, but there are not many things we can keep private as there are so many social networks. WhatsApp officials said that this decision’s goal is to make easier for businesses to communicate with their users.
There were some people who were worried about Facebook’s impact, but the CEO tried to explain that it would not change the company’s belief in user privacy. However, it seems that those fears will become reality as Facebook is going to collect data from Whatsapp. Some privacy groups have decided to do something before it will be too late and they are planning to file a complaint letter against these two apps. They said this action is unfair for the users because they did not agree to share information with other social networks. It is like WhatsApp lied to its users when it promised not to share their data. We do not know what will happen if the Federal Trade Commission will have the same opinion as the privacy group has.
Whatsapp officials said that all messages will still be safe. Its employees and the ones from Facebook will not have access to them. Moreover, you have 30 days to decide if you want to use this feature or not. So it is your decision if you let the app share your data with Facebook or not. This is why we do not think those privacy groups will manage to stop those two big social networks from sharing data. Of course, the authorities should pay more attention if those two companies will continue to apply their privacy laws.
What we know for sure is that privacy is no longer what is used to. Social networks have a bigger impact than before on our lives and sometimes it’s hard not to have a Facebook account, for example. Users should be aware that whatever they are posting might be used by the company and there is no way we can change that. Of course, we can’t see it was right that Whatsapp promised something two years ago and now they are changing their mind. Facebook wants to get more users and Whatsapp is helping them by sharing data from millions of people who are using this app.
